So I finally am in the position to get a historic Les Paul model of sorts. There aren't too many stores in my area that stock them. So I need to hear it from people who have/had one.

What are the neck profile sizes (differences) from a R7/R8/R9 I've played Nocasters with really big necks, and never had any issues. Gracias.

R7 & R8 are very similar. R9 a bit slimmer but not by much.

None of my R8s have identical neck profiles.

My CR8 has a very fat neck. My other LP has a super slim 60's neck, and I have had it for 16 years. Now the fat neck feels more comfortable after just 6 months, you go figure.

R7 has the biggest, then R8, then R9, then R0, generally speaking. Biggest to smallest, in that order, with exceptions of course.

My R7 is a baseball bat, but it sounds awesome.

What year is R0? I just tried out a R7, man that thing was huge. Much bigger than any Nocaster neck I've tried.

Now why didn't I think of that! This is what I might be looking for. My Traditional Pro has a 60's neck and I'm getting real used to it.

Yeah, but the R7 is probably the cheapest of all Historics. Best bang for the buck, for any Les Paul I'd say....if you can stand the fat neck.
Good luck finding an R0 under $3k.

I think they're pretty fat too, never held one though, but it stands to reason that Gibson started out fat, and got slimmer as the 50's went on.

I played an R8 last year and it was the first Fat neck I really ever played. It seemed strange to me because I've used a slim neck for the last 5-6 years. I'm probably going to go for an R4 or an R6 soon but I wont be able to try them for about 2 months. What's your R7 like in general? Gotta love them goldtops :thumb:

Personally, I'm not a fan of the goldtop finish, I wanted a flametop burst, but I can't justify the $5k pricetag for an R9. And, although I'm also not a fan of the big neck, my R7 is a helluva beautiful sounding guitar, and I got it for under $2k (10 years ago). It is, BY FAR, better than any non Les Paul I ever played, and only 2 Les Pauls were better....but those 2 were worth alot more than $2k.

If you like fat necks, and goldtops, and P90s, go for the R6. If you want the wrap tail, get the R4. If you want humbuckers, get the R7. I can pretty much guarantee that either one will sound awesome.

Ok, so I bought a used Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul. It's a tobacco burst, nice looking guitar. I sent Gibson the serial number, but no news yet. Are there any other resources?

Whoa, talk about pulling the trigger quickly! Congrats on the new guitar ... looking forward to some pics! Yeah, like Adwex said, a shot of the back of the headstock should tell the details on it.
