Logo time. The trial to see if a contrasting logo was feasible was less than successful - the epoxy flowed under and around the pine dams. Attempting to rout out the epoxy was a clumping mess with the 1/32" taper bit I use and I surrendered.

I use a logo as a width, height and proportion guide and then sketch in the actual size.

Then comes routing. It takes about 4-5 minutes per letter with lots of mumbling and power words uttered as I cut them out.

I mixed up some bright gold and a touch of graphite black mica powders to tint.

Now on to the trim surround.

Logo sanded. It's a bit muted, I'll clean it with acetone before I lacquer it.

Wetted with water. A bit better. I do like how it doesn't jump out.

I've made a decision on the faceplate trim surround - after two attempts to get something to 'flow' with the case and the faceplate I've determined that the stripes move too much from the case to the faceplate.

So walnut trim it is!

Black tea wash time. Boiled up 12 bags of tea in a cup or so of water. I use it to make the maple figure pop more. It's also handy to mute the green bits on poplar.

I'll put on three coats allowing dry time in between then 0000 steel wool to cut the raised grains. The steel wool glides and cuts vs. sand paper which gouges the surface.

That's actually an interesting method, and something I have never heard of before.
So you are watering the wood before sanding, but you use Black tea instead of water? I suppose that works like some kind of subtle "transparent" dye, enhancing the grain?
You don't have to reveal your secret methods if you don't want to, 😉 but as a fellow woodworker, you got my interest.

I read about it in a woodworker mag a number of years ago. It's subtle but seems to affect the grain display. As I understand it the tannins in the tea react with the grain.

Worked on the face plate trim didn't take any pictures. I've got the trim fitted and it's in lacquer at the moment. I 320 sanded some rough spots on the cab and will reshoot it tomorrow.

I need to think about the back plate - so far the coated steel that Marshall uses on the newer models is the front runner. The decorative aluminum in the correct size I've seen so far is .020" thick and too flimsy.

Nice work Russ.
I like the all walnut piping. :yesway:
IIRC, you mentioned something about a matching cab for the show... 1936 2x12 style? :D

I'm torn - my wood lady texted me today with some wide walnut that is just in that would lend itself to a 1936 or a Zilla cab Fatboy 2x12 OS - 14" deep. The issue is I've been thinking about an EVH Frankenstein head and cab - less wood but more angles.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Work of art and great craftsmanship! I like your choices for triming, piping and logo: Accents without taking over the general impression. Very tasteful!
