Currently, I own a Boss Katana Mk-II 50w combo but would like to upgrade my amp. I mainly play AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and other hard/classic rock stuff and really want to get some good straight into amp Angus Young tone. I cant decide between the Origin 50c or the DSL 40c and don't know which would be better for what I am looking for.

Edit: Thanks so much! surprised at the number of responses I got will definitely go for the dsl!

I have the DSL40C and you can get close the AC/DC on the Classic Gain channel in Crunch mode. I’m not sure about the Origin for AC/DC, but if you want heavier I believe you’re going to have to push it with a pedal in front. I’m sure that others who own an Origin will chime in on that.

Either Amp will get you there, but the DSL is easier to dial in, and it will get you some more modern tones, also.
No doubt the Origin can do early Sabbath and especially AC/DC, but you need to crank it a bit. The DSL will do better at lower Volumes, and it has more Gain on Tap, you can play even harder stuff if you wish to do so.

:welcome:to the forum.
Lots of different tones in the tracks from those bands.
Either amp will get you a lot of what you're looking for.
The only best answer is.....
Both :D

DSL…the Origin will only get you AC/DC when it’s full-on (which is where you’d want it for that, because it nails it)…BUT, it’ll have no headroom for for anything else and therefore, nowhere to go from there-

DSL is much more versatile

Id recommend a inexpensive DSL in whatever size youd like. 1, 5, 20, 40, 100, etc...
The DSL40CR would be a great choice, for bedroom levels, but would also be a great sounding and LOUD amp, when the opportunity exist!
The DSL ine up is also going to have a lot more gain available, than AC/DC used, so you wont be limited !
Very versatile amp!
So my answer....DSLCR in any size, but the DSL40CR rocks!

Nothing wrong the C models, but might as well get the newer CR, in my opinion.

I haven't played the origin but I can get good AC/DC tones from my DSL 40 C. Better than I could with the cR that I had for a bit. I also prefer the simplicity of the C. Less stuff to malfunction.

Edit: it also does Sabbath, early Metallica and a bunch of other stuff.

You would get AC/DC with the Origin no doubt, but the Dsl40c will get you there as well, and much much more, at volume’s that won’t wake the dead …

Cheers

from Scratch with the budget to accomplish this would be :

1. JMP MV Combo (finding a NMV is a needle in a haystack)
2. JCM 800 single channel Combo
3. Studio Vintage Combo
4. Studio Classic Combo
5. DSL Combo
6. This
7. That
8. The other thing
9. Origin.

straight into amp

Magic words.
Surely DSL for better volume taper. The Origin does is quite fantastic but it's going to be insanely loud.

NOW, got a pedal for clean boost such as an SD-1? As an Origin 50 (h) owner, this pedal will give you those fantastic tones at bedroom volume.

As a Marshall brethren, as always recommended, get both if possible. 😎🤟

Can Sabbath and maybe early 80s hard rock/metal be accomplished with the same method on an origin?

Thanks :)
