Believe what you want
I'm just trying to demistify those mighty mite rumors which began to spread on the seymour duncan forums.

Eddie recorded the non trem songs with the stock destroyer pickups = FACT according to the running with the devil clip and the early van halen live shows

then he sharkified the guitar :

he took the running with the devil clip with the stock humbuckers and removed the covers.

the tone was not right he put the mighty mite 1300 in the bridge. he toured with it.

he nearly stopped using it

the next time he used an ibanez destroyer was the one of chris holmes which had the stock maxon super 70's humbuckers and he used it for women and children first :

the issue with van halen it's that there were so many fake rumors and so many twists when eddie destroyed guitars that many urban legends are still persisting... Some might be true but many are false. The mighty mites 1300 are just a copy of the dimarzio super distortion which of course sound close the van halen records. Because van halen used a dimarzio distortion and swapped the magnet in it at some point.

The photo you posted above with Eddie and the Ibanez Destroyer to his left is when the were recording women and children first and that’s Chris Holmes destroyer which was painted red by Chris, the shark guitar with the mighty mite 1300 pickup was used on Van Halen II view the photo I posted of Eddie in the studio for Van Halen II you can see the shark with the cream color mighty mite 1300 pickup that pickup is still in the shark guitar today. The Dimarzio Super Distortion and the mighty mite 1300 are alittle different the mighty mite ceramic magnets are bigger then the Dimarzio Super Distortion

Yes i agree with the fact that the mighty mite might have been used in VH2 in the shark but for VH1 there is no way. You are right about the picture i was wrong this was the women and children first record not v1.

I always find it interesting how little banter there seems to be on the subtle or not-so-subtle differences in Eddies tone from album to album, such as pat_rocks mentioned regarding VHII. Eddie's guitar tone on that record is particularly fucking epic.

i think it might be spot on van halen 2 is still a mystery because it sounds brighter than most van halen albums. Some say he didn't made the frankenstein pickup yet. I red somewhere that he used a dimarzio paf with alnico 5 at 8,56k then it would be very close to what bare knuckle uses at the bridge for vh2.
I mostly listened to the sound clips of every HB on their website and the VHII blew most of them away, w the exception of their Page inspired pickup, and that was what I based my purchase on. I couldn't even tell you what the specs are.

Listen to Pete Thorn and Dave Friedman(not the pickup shoot out after the pickup shoot)they talk about the pickup shootout they had and Dave Friedman said that for the Van Halen 1 sound Dave likes the Mighty Mite 1300 and the Dimarzio Super Distortion(higher output pickups) and the alnico type magnets for the Van Halen II sound.

Yes but are the current production (out of stock) Mighty Mite 1300's made to the same spec and standard of excellence they were back in '79? How many times has the company changed hands?

It changed hands twice Randy Zaguto was the original owner in the mid 70s then sold to the westenheimer company who still owns it today the mighty Mite pickups made today are made in the USA. Frank Falbo who used to work at Seymour Duncan is part of the Mighty Mite pickups designed today he wanted to bring back the original Mighty Mite pickups from the 70s back today
