Hi,

I saw a few threads about swapping speakers, but didn’t see an outcome on them so apologies this has been answered a lot of times before.

I want to change out the 16ohm wolverine 80w 16ohm speaker in a TSL601.

I have a Celestion Redback 150w 8ohm speaker spare that I can use.

Can I just swap the speaker and change the impedance switch to 8ohms?

If so would I need to plug the speaker into the extension output and switch to 8ohms, as opposed to the internal output which is labelled as 16ohm?

I think It would basically be like plugging into an 8ohm cab but the speaker is housed in the combo?

I don’t know if this means the internal out is always rated at 16ohms for when you use a 16ohm extension cab in conjunction with the internal speaker?

Many thanks!

I think the 2 speaker jacks are parallel jacks with a 16 or 8 switch.

you've got it right...

disconnect the 16 0hm out & plug into the 8 ohm out.

one caveat though, is, the 16 ohm out jack, acts as an on/off switch to the other 2 output jacks (4 / 8 ohm). If the jack doesn't work properly, it can cause a fault on the 4 / 8 ohm jacks.

There is a permanent fix, but not sure how you are w/ pulling the chassis & using a soldering iron. It's one of the easier things to do, but, if you aren't sure of yourself, it's something best left to someone who is.

Here's the scoop. This is a TSL100, but, the output jacks are the same. Watch for a couple minutes, from 28:30:

Thank you so much! I’ll probably leave the soldering to an expert! But I’ll look at getting it done.

Thanks again!

Here's a link to the manual.
Typical confusing Marshall directions for the speaker jacks, but yes, they are parallel jacks.
Lots of babbling about attaching extension cabs.
If you are switching the internal speaker from 16 ohm to 8 ohm, just slde the impedance selector over to 8 ohms.
Either jack is ok to use.

Here's a clip from the manual that actually makes sense:

Speaker 1x16 Ohms = 16 Ohms output
Speakers 2x16 Ohms = 8 Ohms output
Speaker 1x8 Ohms = 8 Ohms output.

Thank you that’s great! I couldn’t work it out. As you say the Marshall manuals are a bit confusing if, like me you aren’t used to swapping things out.
