I'm unable to have a strong feeling about that. For one, KISS has never been a favorite of mine, for two, they're getting older and probably their voices aren't quite what they once were, and for three, they would insist on the show being as picture perfect, sound quality included, as is possible.

For these reasons I just accept it for what it is. I would not be thrilled nor would I be demanding my money back. It'd be more of an "Oh well, they did what they did" moment for me.

It's not like the Milli Vanilli fiasco, where the two main guys (Fab and Rob?...kind of guessing there...) never actually sang their own stuff from the beginning. They hired other vocalists and lip synched ALL of their shows with canned vocal tracks. (Maybe all tracks...but definitely the vocals.)

Lip synching to your own recorded content just doesn't seem to be a sin on the same level.

the real picture is gene and paul have stretched it out so damn far
we can now see through it. bottom line its pathetic.

they should have called it while they somewhat still had it.
now its just embarrassing. i bet they cut the tour short this time.
it might be a little different if they had went away yrs ago and just
came back out to have some fun reliving the good ole days.

into over the decades, it goes against everything they ever
presented themselves as being.

kinda reminds me of metallica swearing they would never

Im able to really get up close and personal, due to small crowds, and no seating near the stage...
Im not going to mention any names, but I was up close watching my favorite 3 piece band, and Id swear on a stack of bibles, lip synching was going on.
I was LaGrange....I mean ... I was deranged!

Not justifying it but I guess at some point certain bands become so big it's more of business than a band. They employ so many people and there is so much money to be made, that I don't know if you can even blame the artists. Paul Stanley is 70, I can't imagine he can perform like that even a couple nights per week. The show must go on?

Fortunately, it seems like some bands retire gracefully.

I don't know, but if it turned out that I could make a convincing body double for Gene Simmons with a few hours of makeup and costuming, and pull down 80 grand a night lip synching his lines and playing his licks, I'd sign up for it right away.

I guess I'd also adopt a really good practice habit, for the duration.

You know how much classic Ozzy concert footage is overdubbed in the studio later? He can't sing live for shit for more than about 1/2 a verse.

I was in a guitar shop years ago and a local guy was telling how he was asked to play an out doors gig with a big C&W vocal act. He said he would but then he asked; well do you have a tape or something he could learn the songs from. They started laughing and said "oh no your not going to actually play, just look like you are."

They don't really show it in that video. I found it elsewhere and I heard the other 2 singing then just the word Seats from Paul? Supposedly the whole line comes out? Too much crowd, I never heard it, sounded like the word Seats when Paul was back at mic was louder to me.

To me, any use of backing anything is pathetic.
As a sometimes weekend warrior, we might not have perfect harmonies, miss the odd line, chord, etc.
But at least it is honest.

although, I've seen plenty of concerts w/ some sort of sequenced/backing tracks. Those players all have to play to a click track, or, at minimum the drummer, but, when the drums go out you need someone keeping on the metronome, so it sync's back up when the drums come back in.

It's not so easy playing to a machine that never adjusts to you...

A lot of those also have cue tracks, that tell them when to come in, etc...

U2 do it. Roger Waters... In the '80s, Stryper was one of the 1st to have a keyboard player play sampled backgrounds, along w/ the backgrounds, so they'd sound bigger. Then, a lot of people started doing that.

There's a lot in technology that gets used every day in the music biz.

Some acts are more complex than others. Some are more primal. There does come a crossing point though, where you're not being real anymore & are faking it.

I loved the guy onstage- amazing frontman, but (at least in the time period I saw him) an awful singer. I have a feeling DLR was like Vince Neil, Gary Barden, and a few others- good for one or two big albums and a tour, and their voice went to shit after.

We all get old, unfortunately

I saw an interview where he's talking about the 2 total knee replacement surgeries he's had because of those platforms over the years- that's an awful surgery with a really rough recovery.

I think Paul's vocal performance became untenable over the past 2+ years. Because of Covid that "final, no we really mean it this time, final tour" got shelved , and there was probably a bunch of financial obligation and fan pressure for them to complete it once it became a possibility.

At any rate, I find the whole thing more sad, than pathetic.
