I'm closing out my career with an aerospace company. They asked me to write a document about the creative process before before I leave.

Can you do it in a flowchart?

I'm thinking no, but am looking for ideas.

Wow. Deep question. Some would argue there is no such thing, just hard work . Thomas Edison said genius is 99% perspiration and only 1% inspiration. But for those of us who tap into creativity to write, play music, paint, program, or just problem solve, the process is quite mysterious. Sometimes one feels like a conduit, in the sense that the ideas flow through one from someplace else, most likely, the unfettered subconscious.

You can write anything you want. What are they going to do, fire you?
Some options:

"The creative process can't be taught. It comes from within your mind. That's all I can offer you."

"The creative process is that thing which dies a slow and horrible death when the bean counters enter the conversation about a new product or service. Economical goals often....usually....strangle creativity and force the adoption of less creative, less effective solutions as bean counters are invariably risk averse and even more averse to the dreaded "imagination". The best thing you can do before a meeting is to make sure that the bean counters are not informed of the meeting or are told it's in the other building and at a different time and day."

"The creative process can't be taught, or defined, but I can offer you a few hints. Start by asking a few questions about any existing product. Those questions are, for starters, 'Was that easy and convenient to use? How can I make it better, easier to use, and more convenient? ' Start the creative design process by seeking a need, and then define that need, and start thinking about how that need can be filled. "

Haven't really mastered embedding here yet. But my next thred is, "They Raised My Rent!"
as far as videos, just copy/paste the link & the forum automatically embeds it, as long as it's one of the compatible sites...

My first job, not counting pulling rocks out of Joe's field was to build heavy equipment. A bunch of hard-arz iron workers. Somehow, I ended up in a room full of document engineers who couldn't build a dog house with a dump truck full of Legos.

Honestly, I was asked to put together a flow chart on the creative process.

There's only one way out of that!

When I decided to leave my field they were trying to promote me (to mange the american northern hemisphere down to Venezuala area).
I told them you will not want to afford me for taking that position. I was also already one foot out the door. Of course this was a company with full cabal ties (THEY do ultimately own everything).

:hmm: For some reason, whenever I hear this song, the first thing I think of is this forum.

In fact, I think it should be the forum's official theme song.

Now that I have heard the song and seen the video...
The first thing I think of is that the day will come when we will be called to account for the amount of chorus and hair that we used.
