Since you guys are talking speakers. The EVH 20 watt speakers that I have in my EVH 412 would be really good and are awesome with my SC as well as with all my amps. For some reason they cost a bit less than the Celestion's labeled 20 watt greenback even though being the same from what I've read.

They'll make that toppy 800 sound better at lower gain levels and kill at higher gain.

I'd put the EVH in the combo or the Celestion Goldback. Both of which I use. Or go with the usual. 🖕

I keed!:D

Yeah, I’m running two 1-12 cabs with my SC20h most of the time, one G12M Greenback and one G12M 65 Creamback

If for some reason I’m using just one cab with the SC20, it’s always the Creamback. It just sounds fuller, better balanced, more headroom, and more present in the room than the Greenback imo.

Of course most times I’m running both cabs, the Greenback, being slightly louder, (98 db), than the Creamback, (97 db), is in the bottom cab to help that disparity.

The two speakers sound great together, they are quite different sounding on their own, and they compliment each other quite nicely imo.

Thanks for the info. As you may recall, I have both the SC20C and an SC20H. I have a 2x12 hooked up to the SC20H. I rolled a number of speakers through it before deciding on the combination I like best. It has a Creamback and a Vintage 30.

I owned a couple different Creambacks, a couple different Greenbacks, and another speaker or two. Tried every combination of all the speakers I bought, and settled on the two mentioned above.

I'd love to have a few more cabinets with a variety of speakers, but I have no more room.

Oh yeah buddy, I recall you setup man,… all your Marshalls are killer! And I think you have the distinction of being the only person l know that not only returned an SV20,… but you doubled down on the SC20s’!

Thank you sir.

Definitely a JCM 800 guy. I have a Ceriatone clone of a JCM 800 2204 arriving in May.

My JCM 2000 DSL 50 is pretty damn cool too!

I sent my SV20 back also, LOL. I liked it a lot, but I already had that tone in my other Marshalls, and at lower volumes also, with the Fryette PS-2. Sometimes I wish I hadn't returned it, but I can't really regret it. However, I did not double down on the SC20! :fever:

newbie question: if i get a multi-effect pedal like Helix LT or Boss GX100 and run 4 cable method, can I only use modeller clean that feed direct into power amp and SC20h for lead and high gain? Does this sound stupid?
Well, i do something in the same direction. I have an AMT D2 preamp that use it for clean (not enganged) and hi gain (button enganged) that goes to "channel 2" using a BOSS LS2 as a channel selector doing a loop with the AMT and using send and return in the amp. When Boss LS1 in channel A I use the amp with the input and when I change to channel B I use the preamp. If you are interested I can attach some photos. First time can be a bit complicated to set, but then it´s quite easy to use and sound incredible. Now I have a Fender clean, Marshall dirt and Diezel hi-gain for a cheap cost; Only a AMT preamp (Here in Europe can cost 80-100 euros second hand and a Boss LS2 that costs around 60-80 euros second hand)

The clean plattform of AMT is a Fender Deluxe Reverb style and sounds phenomenal and every pedal in the chain before sounds incredible as well.

In fact, I have 3 channels using this system. The amp for light to crunch tones and the AMT for clean, metal and for solos because you can adjust different volumes in Boss LS2 and also in AMT pedal if needed for clean or metal tones.

This system is gaining some success among players with single channel amps since some tutorials like this were released about it in website and forum in spanish www.guitarristas.info

I think it´s the easiest and cheapest way, keeping its tone without mods, to have more than 1 channel with our SC20

Just got around to popping some 6550's in my lil SC monster. Had to remove the bear traps so they fit which I'm ok with.

Fuuuuuuuuk.

Also got rid of some hum the amp had. Sumpt'n not right with one or both of the EH6CA7's I had in it.

I much prefer the 6550's. I figured I would. And yes. It's ballz did in fact get bigger.

V1- RFT ECC83
V2-60's RFT AT7/JJ ECC83(Lynch Mod)
PI- 60's Mullard AT7
Power Tubes-6550's

Oh and the Marshall's crowning a Fender Bassbreaker 112 with V30 in it. Cab sounds killer with the SC. :eddie: Looks stupid as Fuck though!

If we were neighbors I'd bring over my other set of 6550's so you could try them. :agreed:

I've used 6550's in my other Marshallz and have always liked the result. Nice open sound. That's what differs over the 6CA7'S is hearing a more open sound. That's a nice addition to the SC800. I thought they might add too much clarity to an already clear sounding amp. I was wrong. It tastes great! I can chew all day on this sound.

I'm actually not cranking it either. 20 watts, volume and preamp gain at 10 am. I have the Lynch Mod at noon gain wise. Keeping it at midgain to hard rock vein. Boarder line too toppy when rolling off but that's what the tone knob is for. Just right full throttle on guitar volume. Roll off to clean happens easily with this amp especially at lower gain settings. You know how it does.lol

Had a weird thing happen. My combo came with a greenback in it. I was having to turn the bass all the way down because it was really bassy, but it wasn’t like that if I unplugged the combo speaker and plugged in a cab with a different speaker.

I just figured maybe it’s because the speaker isnt broken in or something so yesterday I swapped it out with a 10” Scumback I have and that solved the issue.

Well, it turned out I liked the greenback better even tho I had to run the bass down low so today I put the greenback back in. Now, not only is it no longer bassy it’s noticeably a lot brighter and trebly than it was before.

How can this be?

Please let me know how you like the Ceriatone, I just ordered the same thing with an added bright cap that will go in/out with a push pull pot in the gain knob.

Alright. I went to do this last Spring (on the SV) and @Guitar Amp Tools had posted that you cannot simply drop them in. (and spooked me lol)
After the tubes adjust to the SC's cathode biased circuit, the tubes will run at higher negative voltages to the EL34s. Something with impedance of the OT how it handles that. I did not want to play blow the fuse game.
Sorry, I am of no help with the technical.

Don't sweat, the Studio series can take it. I even run KT88's in my SC20, which are technically stressing the PT a little more than the EL34's. The magic of cathode biasing is indeed that the negative (bias) voltage will adjust as required (provided you're using valves that are within the design spec). 6550's, 6CA7's, KT66-88, etc - all fine. :yesway:

@solarburn Glad you're digging the new valves. That can really make the amp sound a lot bigger as you outlined. I'd be hard pressed to move back to EL34's after having had the KT88's in there. :)

yeah I'm gonna have a tough time going back to 34/6CA7'S if I need to for any reason. :agreed:

This sounds awesome and versatile! If I use GX100 modeler as a boost & preamp and use SC20H power amp section, do get get those early metallica tones? (rectifier preamp into a moded JCM800)
so for my case, I could do
1. Clean channel: GX100 preamp straight into FX loop
2. Lead Channel: use SC20h pre amp and power amp,
3. Brown Channel: some sort of GX100 preamp boost into SC20h preamp, then FX in the FX loop.

I think so. You just need a sort of line selector pedal and then do it like a loop. If you need some pictures or info I can send you by PM.

Not sure if I should start a new thread, but thought this was the right place to ask a question:
I recently got the SC20H and an Orange 2x12 with V30s which is absolutely amazing. I play in a small room, so its a bit overkill, even with an attenuator. I notice that the amp feedsback really easily - I assumed because I stand quite close to it, however even if I stand outside the room it still happens easily -even when playing its always on the edge of feedback.
My DSL40CR doesnt feedback at all even at high volume/gain settings, so I was wondering if V30s or a 2x12 cab would be more prone to this? I dont think its the tubes as I have swapped in/out another pair of power tubes and the V1 preamp tube. Might it also be something to do with the amps frequency range? Seems to have more focus on upper mids than the DSL?

Yah mine is more prone to feedback too. Don't be an antenna meaning adjust your self and see where you get less. I just turn my body and roll off guitar volume it stops. I have found it annoying. I do play at high volume so it gets worse.

A noise gate would help. You already changed tubes. The fact your guitar isn't doing it with your DSL points back to the SC. I'm assuming your pick ups aren't microphonic. I haven't had to get a gate with mine as body adjustments and guitar volume usually do the trick. If it didn't I'd use a noise gate.

I go straight in to amp. No OD pedals in front. I have a Lynch Module adding gain to V2. Mine would feedback before I got the Lynch Mod bone stock.
I'm currently plugged into a 112 cab with a V30. I don't notice more or less between my other cabs/speakers as I recall.
