Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive (tube screamer knock-off) into Bluesbreaker Reissue Combo (classic Bass/Lead circuit)- Essentially the same thing.... THE BEST..!!
MAXIM made the Ibanez pedals and they are marketing them now with the classic design and the Maxim name. Back in the day 40 years ago you had MXR, Morlely, Electro Harmonix. But in the early 80s Boss and Ibanez were really the compact pedals competing for the UK Models...

Electro Harmonix were a bit bulky and outdated old fashioned boxes. MXR were never really sent or marketed in the UK... Morely was just really expensive Rolls Royce stuff that only the rich and rock stars could afford.

The arms race in the 80S in the UK was Ibanez verses Boss....

Boss was the better tech for young hipsters, bettet in every way, better made.. But for the musical purists the Ibanez (Maxim) had the better and more warm organic sound xxx

Just my experience from that time xx

Yes sorry I am somewhat dislexic
I think more importantly the Boss pedals had a much smoother and professional sound... brilliant for studio....

But the Ibanez were just so more raw and hard edged and cut through... that is why the tube screamer is so loved with an old JMP or JTM by classic enthusiasts everywhere. The distortion Ibanez pedal is also a classic and works very well with a JMP or JTM or Plexi xxx

I will probably never have the opportunity to play with a mid 70's JMP 2203, but if I did, I would certainly use either a Boss BD-2 or SD-1. I don't think I could go wrong with these two pedals.

Thanks Steven! 👍
I really try to play like my Master, but I'm light years away from achieving that someday. Who knows? Maybe in a next reincarnation, God giving me more talent and being born in a first world country, lol :usa::uk::ca:

Do not be daft. Just play with your heart and soul with everthing you play and play with love and emotion with everthing you play. Its not about fast technique it is about putting your heart and your love into what you do my friend, I am 57 now and have all of lifes kicks in the face. Please just express yourself and dont be bothered about speed or technique competitions.

Learn blues and learn major notes playing around blues scales.

The Experience Drummer and bass player were so sloppy... when Jimi found Buddy and Billy he really found an amazing tight groove for him to progress, his guitar playing got better and better and tighter but sadly he died soon after this. Complete bummer...

My fave pedal for boosting my moderately crunching 71 1987 and 79 2203 is a Barber LTD SR, though admittedly I only tried about 10 pedals.
The way I set it up it just adds a little bit of gain/sustain, mids and volume but doesn’t change the base tone. My second and third faves were an older Barber Direct Drive and a Ibanez ts808HW but both are on the fritz atm. The LTD is my only pedal. It’s an excellent OD but tbh I’m not much of a pedal guy and over 90% of my playing is straight to amp.

It's not about being daft, but about being aware that I will never reach the same level as my master. It's obvious that I always try to be myself on the guitar. From an early age, I learned that I should copy the masters to the point where I could absorb those ideas as much as possible, but only so that I could incorporate them into my own style. That's what I'm looking for, and that's what I've been doing over the years. I never considered playing the guitar as a form of competition, because I'm sure I'd always be a loser, lol. My goal has always been to come up with my own style and get my own tone.

I had it custom made by a guy who no longer builds guitars he just sells guitar parts and restores classic cars, man after my own heart. Fender lawyers threatenened to sue him as they had bought the design copywrite. Chris just changed a tiny bit in the design and they had to back off... stupid thick fucking corporate cunts

Here we are jamming. 😆

I always thought Tube Screamers with their mid frequency bump always worked best with mid scooped amps like Fender, not Marshall’s which have beautiful mids.

I have a tube screamer for my Origin 20. It completely changes the sound and I like what it does.

I have a 1.7v OCD. It has far too much bottom end for my liking. Even with tone knob dimed i can't dial it out. It's good for a lead boost for single note solos. I have a '79 JMP 2204 and much prefer my Maxon 808.

Ya...I gigged with my Buxom boost with my JMP a month ago. It was great however I couldn't get the boost above halfway without it squealing. I was running it with a Legendary Tones hotmod which was likely the reason. Love the Buxom Boost.
