1000% pure silliness at gamestop stock run level proportions. this is a flashmob joke. Nobody is serious about the asking prices whatsoever, and outside of reverb, these can be found at any moment in a used case or CL ad for their honest value. On top of this, tom rejoined digitech with very high likelihood this will reissue (with this publicity stunt all but sealing the deal).

I worked at a music related store so have witnessed first hand how people will buy based on a video. I don't think the prices will last but I don't doubt the demand shot up big time right now.
This thread got me thinking about an old Boss SD/OD I had. Checked prices and saw a first gen Japanese Boss OD for $1200.
Really, people are crazy. lol

Got mine like 15 years ago for $40 used, Phil X turned me on to them. Probably havent used it in 10 years but I'll keep it, I always regret getting rid of pedals in the long run, they don't take up much space to keep around.

Well, this is an illustration of the effect of the internet and the human condition of "wanting what you can't have." Didn't see this one coming though.

For $4999.99 cash, anyone can have this with all the beer spills and cigarette ash and I'll even throw in the power supply, and free shipping!

cracks me up these go from Tube Screamer comparisons, then get to the Klon Centaurs. Sorry but these are not substitutes.

Video shocking people on youtube making stupid videos.

I reiterate the point I have made elsewhere: there is a mile of difference between being able to dial A to sound like B and B to A, and being able to Dial B all the way through the spectrum of A’s range.

The real red flag is how the BM seems to be able to emulate 3 or 4 different pedals that we all know from experience do not sound like one-another (i.e., a TS does not do a Klon at all). So either the BM is the alpha and omega of swiss army circuits, which is a load of BS… or (assuming no engineering manipulation as hypothetically suggested above), the pedals were dialed out of their ranges to hit one overlapping spot which may or may not be ideal or what the pedal is really known for. I am surprised that nobody else brings this up in such responses.

I think that the greater demonstration is likely that these things all sound very similar in a mix. Spectre Sounds Studio's YT channel has been doing a series on the Super Crush and comparing is against a 5150, a SLO100, and Revv Generator in a metal mix. People were trashing on the SC when played by itself and claiming that they could hear a difference but once in a mix people couldn't tell the amps apart. The takeaways from the demonstration were that 1) people do indeed listen with their eyes and that 2) many differences that are apparent in isolation disappear once in a mix. I don't think that the BM is as bad of a pedal as people thought it was for nearly 20 years and I don't think that the "horse" overdrive is as amazing as people say it is. I also don't necessarily think that Josh tries to make any of the equipment he demos sound "bad." He does his own video of amps that people don't like that he makes sound great. If nothing else, it does nothing for him to make people believe that a historically undervalued pedal is better than it really is.

regardless whatever your take is on the whole JHS & Bad Monkey situation, here is a more pressing decision that I will need your input on...

someone is currently offering me a choice of one of two different pedals as a trade for my Bad Monkey pedal - I would need to pick between an Xotic SL Drive, or an Earthquaker Devices Hoof... which one would you pick?

Tell him prices are through the roof on the Bad Monkey, and you need both to make it even money. Gotta strike while the irons hot. :applause:

Or sell the b.m. outright at a silly profit and buy an orange amp for your new stoner band with the dough.

ya know... you got a point... I like the way you think. I will run my sales pitch by him...

"well, I could very easily sell this for 350-400 bucks, but because I like you, I'm gonna let you have it for the low, low cost of both those pedals, and you don't even have to add any extra cash to the transaction."

I think I have 3 or 4 now, one US made in a box. I'll wait and sell them with the script Nobels odr-1 i have.. Then retire. ;)

ToneX pedal arrived today, absolutely amazing. All this stuff is new to me, surprised how dynamic the profiles are I've favored.

Again, I am going with 85% ironic posts, 15% idiots suddenly turned onto the pedal and paying 100-500% of the pedal’s previous value.

There is literally nothing showcased (no matter how valuable) that doesn’t already have a half dozen clones under $60, and one would have to have been living under a rock to have missed this.

The actual sales should show this quite clearly.

I think this is part of a larger thing with guitarists, though, and that is that we tend to be susceptible to hype. Vintage gear, as a great example. I know I'll probably ruffle some feathers here and so I want it to be clear that I think vintage stuff is cool and I'm not taking shots at anybody that loves vintage gear. But aside from the cool factor it's not objectively better (with some rare exceptions) than well-made modern equivalents. Just look at JCM 900's. I like them. I have for some time. Around 2010 you couldn't give them away. In my neck of the woods could pick up a 50 watt combo for $400 in good condition. Dual Reverb 100 watt heads were $500. Now 900's of any series are four figure amps. Because "vintage." The amp didn't change.

Prices go up. That's the way it is, but the prices on vintage anything are insane. 17k for a 74 strat? Insane. Had one. Nothing great about it, it was just another Strat. My 1k 93 Strat plus was a better guitar by a mile. I don't get the hype...like 60s Marshalls..10k plus?..are you fucking high? Unless Hendrix played it, or it's signed by the original 3 amigos at Marshall imo they ain't worth anywhere near that. Guitar players are nostalgic, and stupid.

Keep your vintage and keep trying to convince everyone they're worth their weight in gold.

Like the Klon. So many better options thousands cheaper. Don't be stupid and believe the bullshit.
