I’m curious about gigging these little 20 watt Studios, (SC, SV, Jub),… I’m assuming most of you guys mike your amps,….

Does anyone gig theses amps without miking?

We played three outdoor gigs last summer/autumn and I didn't mic the SV20/2x12. FWIW, I have the SV212 that has the slanted upper speaker. I have also put Greenbacks into mine since the beginning. I have had no problems with the beam effect, either outdoors or in clubs.

Hi guys - Thanks for all the comments and discussions...

So firstly i want to say that i feel like these amps (the studio series) are all loud enough to play gigs with, at least the gigs i'll be playing for sure... So thats cool...

The other thing is that i've actually decided to go for the Silver Jubilee 2525h and matching 2x12 vertical cab - Instead of the SV20h... All of the studio range sound fantastic... However, 2 things i've realised is, that in all of my recent studio recordings (which i have been using Amplitube 5) i've mostly been using JCM800's over Plexi's, and also with the Siver Jubilee basically having 2 channels, means i'll have more tone options and i'll sound closer to the records...

So yeah, sorry to switch tracks haha, but are any of you using the Siver Jubilee 2525...? If so i'd love to hear your thoughts about it...

Thanks for your time...

So I’ve had the 2525H and matching 2x12 for almost a year now. I love it. And sometimes hate it, lol. It really is an amazing amp, but in the back of my head every time I’m playing I secretly wish it was 50 or 100 watts for that extra Marshall beef and headroom. But honestly that’s my first-person guitar player ego stance. Sound guys seem to like the amp on 5w mode (🤦‍♂️) and my band mates seem to like it in 20w just fine.

Does the mini Jub have the same kind of power scaling as the SC and the SV? I know the 2525 was out years before it was combined with those other two as the Studio Series.

The SC and SV have the best sounding low wattage mode I’ve ever heard, much better than Pentode/Triode used in other Marshalls imo.

To my ears the 20 watt mode is much more dynamic and present than the 5 watt selection. I only use the 5 watt for low volume playing, whenever I can I use the 20 watt mode.

Don’t get me wrong though, the 5 watt sounds great, just not quite as great as the 20 imo. The 5 watt mode is more compressed and breakup is earlier, of course.
