Hi guys/gals,

I recently picked up an Origin 50 head on the cheap to go with my 2x12 vertical marshall cab. This amp is amazing. After replacing some of the preamp tubes it sounds beautiful.

This amp is known to take pedals well and I can confirm. I have a bunch of pedals that I want to run, but I get confused in pedal order. I tried a few variations, but wanted to get your take.

my base tone is amp at full 50 watt mode, master all the way up, treble way down and all other knobs at noon, gain knob to adjust overall volume. I have a Wampler Tumnus with the gain low as an "always on" pedal, and this is pretty much my cleanish sound.

First question: should I put the Tumnus in the FX loop? is it safe for the amp to put it there?

Here is the rest of the pedals I get lost on placement and order.

Dunlop Cry baby - It is the first pedal after the guitar
BOSS TU2
Wampler Mini Ego Compressor
BOSS SD1 - I use it as a solo boost
BOSS BD2 - its where I get my over drive sound
BOSS PH2 - currently running it in front of amp
BOSS CH5 - also running it in front of amp
BOSS TR2 - new pedal, not sure if it goes in front or fx-loop
BOSS DM2waza - currently in FX loop. I only use it to wet my sounds a little
EH Holy Grail NEO - currently in FX loop. I only use it to wet my sounds a little. This pedal is very sensitive

what order would you put these pedals in? and what order in front of amp and order in FX loop?

thanks

I’m far from an expert on this, but have my 3 ODs in front. The Equalizer, Chorus, Reverb, and Ditto looper through the effects loop. It all seems to work well this order and placement. This is with an Origin20H.

- You can’t damage the smp
- Put all OD in front of the amp
- Put solo boost pedals in the amp loop
- Many folks put modulation pedals in the loop

I've been using a rule of order for a long time, but it's my choice that maybe other people might not like. In the front go always the Wah, octaver, phaser, and overdrive/distortion pedals (I don't use compressors or pitch shifters, but if I did, it would go here too). In the loop go all the others, noise supressor, eq, chorus, flanger, delay, and reverb. It's what has worked best for me over time.
