So this arrived today! It’s late, so having to play it low volume but I’m loving it.

Only thing is the size seems a bit bigger than I remember in the store, it fits but takes up a lot of my tiny studio space. I have a bit of a window to return so will spend some time with it and see how I feel in a few days.

Would the SC20C or SC20H with a small 1z12 cabinet take up a decently smaller foot print? Still haven’t found one in person to try yet so going by online demos and images of those for now.

I've heard about the lead 12. It was on my radar actually but all the ones I could find near me were selling for $300 or more. They look really cool! I think people might have caught on to how good they are and prices might have gone up more.

Glad I can't go wrong! I was set on the DSL40C and got it priced down to $350 due to the missing footswich and some marks on the Tolex. But a newer DSL40CR in the same white finish and looking almost brand new popped up for $650 from Guitar Center. I opted for the DSL40CR since it wasn't a huge price difference and was newer, plus I have the flexibility to return or exchange it if I don't love the amp. WIll be coming in the mail soon, so will see!

Budget for me is probably anywhere up to $1200 or so. I have no plans to play with other musicians though it's nice to have the option if I ever change my mind.

Wow, that is a great idea to scale with different cabinets and not something I thought of. I was going to opt for the SC20C but may go for the SC20H if I go that route over the DSL. Fortunately I found a used DSL40CR through Guitar Center and will have the chance to try it through my rig and can return or exchange it for an SC20H if I don't love the sound. Will see if the raggedness bothers me.

So true on trying them out! I'm excited to try the DSL40CR I ordered. I wish I could try the 2525 and SC20. Will still keep an eye out for those near me in case

I'll be looking for your NAD post soon!

Hope I can post one soon! I just found this gorgeous DSL40CR but not sure on keeping it yet. Love the look and it sounds awesome.

Only concern is the amp makes a light popping noise whenever I hit the foot switch to change channels. Is this normal for DSL amps? On TGP forum they said the popping noise isn’t normal or shouldn’t happen.

Congratulations looks so familiar to me.

I don’t have the CR to compare the popping noise with, mine are the C’s so not sure what that problem could be.

I played one yesterday and when changing the channels on the front panel (not with the footswitch), there was an audible click from the amp. It sounds less like a pop through the speakers to me and more like something almost mechanical, but there is definitely a delay and a noise. I see why people complain about the delay as other DSLs I have played (like the 100H) didn't have it. But I'm not much of a channel-switcher so I don't mind.

Thanks Mitch, that’s helpful to know you don’t hear it on the C version. I may visit my local store today and see if the DSL they have does the same thing.

Thanks, that’s really helpful to know it’s not just my amp. Yeah, now that you mention it, it’s more a mechanical click than a pop. It’s not a problem for me as I tend to stick to one channel too and plan to only use it at home. But I wanted to make sure that was normal for the amp and not an indicator of some malfunction.

One of these just popped up for about $1200 today. Will be a tough choice! Wish I could try the SC20C out but none of my local stores have one in stock. I’m tempted to stick with the DSL40CR since I know I like it. A bird in the hand…

A bigger cab size benefits the low end and overall sound. The DSL40 C/CR sounds very polished. Cool amp. I hope the popping noise is not an issue.

The relay makes a click when changing channels. It's not very loud. If you can hear it from 10 or 15 feet away with the volume on 3 or 4 then it's probably not the relay. If you can try another one that'd be your best bet.

Good luck.

Thanks, this is something I hadn’t considered but very good thing to know. I notice the DSL40 just has this satisfying full bodied sound. The size is probably helping alot there.

Me too. I’m gonna try out a brand new DSL40 at my local store and see if I hear the same noise.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully it’s just the relay then. I’ll try to get out to the stores tomorrow and see if I hear it on the other DSL40s.

Haha if my Marshall journey is anything like my Les Paul one, I have no doubt I will end up with both. I’ll just have to decide which one to get first. :D

Looking for something I don't remember what.
The SC/SV combo only have a 10" speaker which isn't a deal breaker for some but for me it is.
I would keep the DSL40cr and try and pick up an SV/SC 20 head up sometime. You can then use the DSL as a cab with a simple F to F speaker adapter plug and extension lead.
This is by far the cheapest way to have your cake and eat it.

Wow, thanks for this idea. I didn’t know I could do that actually. I don’t own any cabinets, so this would be a great work around to having both on a budget.

Quick update! I went to Guitar Center to try a different brand new DSL40CR.

1) The brand new DSL40CR in the store made the same noise with the footswitch as mine did. So I’m fairly confident this is normal for the specific model and not a defect.

2) I pointed out a crack in the amp cabinet that wasn’t disclosed on the sale (pictured below). They knocked a $100 off the price for me. So I got the amp for $540 plus the shipping and tax. I think at that price I’m gonna go ahead and keep it. Any reason to worry about the crack getting bigger? Or is it purely cosmetic? Never had that on an amp before.

This is a crack in the particleboard cabinet. Not a surface "tolexblemish".

Its not cosmetical, its structional!

My advice: Money back and buy something not
made out of woodwaste.

Meant in good spirit!

Never seen that before either. Before you decide to keep it you might want to pull the chassis and look at the cabinet in that area to see if the actual wood is cracked. If so, that would indicate a pretty serious blow to the amp to cause something like that. My inclination would be to return it if it's a structural crack.

It has been dropped, and it is not made out of wood, it's woodwaste mixed with glue.
