We're a month away from taking possession of, and two months away from moving into our new place.

There's a long version of the story, but it's boring. The short version is that we're buying the house my wife grew up in - that her father built.

One of the many awesome upsides to this place is that it has a 1 bedroom apartment that shares the ground floor with the garage.

I work from home, so the bedroom will be a combination of office, control room and mixing space.

The living room is 18m². Big enough for my 3-4 piece project to have space for the occasional jam session and demo recording.

Primary setup will be DI bass, guitars and electronic drums all running through a small PA, along with vocals.

I'll be able to do some full volume recording in there as well, but probably not often. Don't want to piss the neighborhood off too often. For songwriting and demo recordings, the DI setup will do. We've been working that way in separate, small spaces for a Long time.

I can't wait. All of my guitars, amps and recording gear have been sharing the same 6m² space I use for my day job. It's tight.

It's going to be awesome to stretch my legs a bit. I'm hoping the easy access will accelerate my songwriting as well.

Actually, I think I'm just gonna stick with my climate-controlled storage unit for now.

:D

Seriously though, nice abode. Arizona? (Random wild guess.)

Climate control rules. This place is made of concrete and rocks and has insulation inside and out. The ground floor stays in the 70s during the summer when it's in the 90s outside (another great upgrade over my current place which is sorta shaped, and acts, like a pizza oven in the summer).

The middle (main) floor of the house is getting at least partial AC this summer.

As for location, you were close. We're leaving the Rhone area of France and headed out to the Loire region....only a 15 hour flight from Arizona 😉

Last summer was brutal here (Lyon). I ended up spending most of it in/around Seattle 😄

The shutters help a lot. I will probably build some removable insulation panels to cover the windows when we get loud. Will probably help regulate the temperature a little as well.

The massive roses outside the windows are pretty good passive security measures too😄

Congrats!

That's an interesting house / landscape ... is that somewhere in Europe? My spidey senses are telling me like English / French countryside? It's really very pretty!

French countryside indeed. About 30 minutes outside of lyon. Little town with about 5000 people. We're about to get our first grocery store. Everyone is very excited (seriously 😃).

My wife grew up here. Her mom was a teacher at the little elementary school a couple hundred yards down the street. Her dad was a freelance artisan carpenter. In addition to building this house, you'll find his work in about half the other houses around here as well as pretty much every government building within 3-4 towns.

Pretty good landing spot for a Seattle grunge kid.😃

I watch the EU property shows on tv ,
The French countryside is by far one of my faves. Patchwork fields, rolling knolls, and lush vegetation, thatch roofing. Lots of quirky character in those homes.

Very cool man !

The countryside views are indeed fantastic. Though, like everywhere, they are slowly being eroded by civilization.

We're pretty lucky in that it would take pretty significant zoning changes to build much more in the area. It'll happen, but it will be a problem for my grandkids to deal with...or even their kids.

For now, I have this (taken from about the same spot as the previous picture.. just facing the opposite direction).
