need some minor home maintenance info

in our bathroom, we have a wooden towel bar, held by two ceramic end brackets that are attached to the wall. its been fine for the past 23 years we've lived there, but yesterday, one of the bracket ends fell off. its a really old house, so I'm not surprised. my question is... what kind of adhesive should be used to attach ceramic to ceramic? some kind of cement? anyone knowledgeable about bathroom maintenance or remodeling, please let me know. thanks in advance.

Can you snap / share a pic? Would like to see what you're working with. This should be a really easy fix, and my first thought is that you'd want something like an epoxy glue. Is there any damage to the wall? Pics would help.

JB weld if it’s a plaster wall, because if it’s drywall it will pull off again, with some of the wall finish.
But @crossroadsnyc is right.
Some type of epoxy should do it.
or a quality ca type of super glue.

a friend of mine does some minor home maintenance & repair work. he's mainly an electrician. but he said that to attach a ceramic bracket to ceramic tile, he strongly recommends that I use Loctite Power Grab construction adhesive.

This stuff works great, glue it and tape it up with blue masking tape while it dries.

Yep, that would work just fine.

That’s the same adhesive. I used to put back a couple of pieces of tile on a countertop .

Personally, I don't rely on adhesive for a job like that. I'd be drilling screw holes if not already there.

If what you're talking about is similar to this with the exception that the bracket is also ceramic instead of wood, then I absolutely would use screws to secure it to the wall.

I agree, I always prefer a mechanical connection for everything if possible.

Can you post some pics?

I've seen ceramic brackets mortared directly to the wall with tiles mortared to the wall around the brackets, but haven't seen brackets glued directly to tiles.

(Brackets mortared to the wall is a sucky method because eventually they come off, and never go back on as securely as the first time.)

I get the impression that several other people are also struggling to imagine what you're dealing with.
