So I haven't had a Marshall since I sold my DSL about 10 years ago and built my HG Plexi so I'm happy to be back in the fold. I've wanted a small 10" combo for a long time now and when these came out I thought it was perfect. Well it took me a while, but I finally was able to get one. Found this one barely used on Reverb last week at a great price so I jumped on it. It even still has the tag on the handle and is in brand new condition. Got it yesterday (in original box) and I've had a few hours to play with it, still learning the amp, but I've managed to dial in a pretty decent tone so far. Using a Bad Monkey up front as a boost and so far having a pretty good time.

This one came with a Celestion G10 Greenback.

Well after having this amp for a few days now I'm just blown away every time I turn it on. The tones I've scratched and clawed for for 30 something damn years and could never quite get are just effortless with this amp, it does everything I've ever wanted from an amp. I could never justify having a big 50 or 100 watter and never needed a big amp like that so this little 20 watter is a godsend. Best gear purchase I've ever made and I couldn't be happier. Thank you Marshall!!

Congrats @DirtySteve, great amp for classic Marshall tones!

This is a great combo that stands on its own, even with a 10” speaker, killer.

But adding a 1-12 closed back cab to the combo, as @PelliX suggested, would certainly produce a much bigger sound.

I originally used a 1-12 with my SC20, but not too long after, I started using two 1-12 cabs. The sound was so much bigger and fuller with 2-12s than 1-12, that I couldn’t go back to just the 1-12.

I'm using my 112 cab along with the combo speaker and it's great. But, I'm actually thinking about having a 210 vertical cab built to match the combo for a little mini stack.

Excellent!

Both the 'matching' SC212 angled 2x12 cab or an MX212 would fit nicely. The MX212's come with Seventy/80's, but also cost a fair deal less, the SC212 comes with V-types that are actually really good. If you're going for a 2x[size] cab, I'd go the for the full 12" deal. :yesway:

You guys are killing me! I don't know why no one believes me when I say I want 10" speakers. I like 10" speakers and I want a small rig. I'm just an at home player and I'm trying to keep things small and light. I have a jacked up back and neck that's only getting worse as I get older. I'm trying to downsize. :thumb:

I'd be perfectly happy with just the combo by itself. I been playing it that way today and it sounds killer with that greenback in there.

This amp was very bassy, too much any where above 9:00 or too little if I dialed it back. I don't know if the speaker just needs breaking in or what, but I just swapped it out with my 10" Scumback M75 and problem solved!

im not giving up on the Greenback though, I’m going to put it in a cab and break it in to see it it gets better. It has a really nice mid range growl that the Scumback doesn’t seem to have. I hope that doesn’t go away.

I forgot I posted this here... an update.

The next day I put the greenback back in because even tho I had to run the bass way down low I still liked the GB better than the SB and for whatever reason the bass issue was gone. I have no clue what happened to change that, all I did was swap the speaker and then put it back.

Depending on how you tighten a speaker, you can affect its tone by twisting the cage. Just a thought.

The SC 20 and SV 20 watt studio amps are considerably LESS expensive than Marshalls awesome JMP 1 WATT and JCM 800 1 WATT 50th anniversary series amps on the used market .

Part of it is they are limited edition but a big part of it is also that you don't need to buy anything else like an attenuator for them.

They sound INCREDIBLE and are vastly superior to the DSL 1 WATT currently offered.

He is using the JMP 1 WATT HEAD BELOW:

Yeah, we tend to get a little excited when fellow members get new gear that we like! :D
