Guys,

I am about to buy a bigger pedal board and power pack. So I am thinking of adding a midi controller. The initial rational was to get more from my Strymon Iriidium, so I was going to buy a simple one like the ‘midi mouse’ but I have a dozen other pedals. Like boss, tc electronics and so on. My question is can I switch any combination of these pedals on and off with a midi controller. If the answer is yes, I may want to invest more hard earned dollar, in a better midi control let.

All help gratefully received.

If they are all midi controllable its doable but if not you may be looking for a switcher or a midi controlled switcher.
How do I know if they are midi controllable or is it simply a case of google for each pedal.

Thanks for the advice re make midi switchers I will research these.

I am a total novice in this field.

Hi G !!
Yeah, each pedal is unique.. More and more midi capable pedals are popping up all the time……
Most guitar pedals, traditionally, are not Midi capable ……
‘The work around for that is Midi Loop Switching ( like the Morningstar ML5 or ML10X ) and Midi capable Loop Switchers like the Boss ES-5 or ES-8.
There are many Brands that make both types…
I personally spend the bulk of my time and builds based on the ES units……
Full disclosure, I’m the Admin of the Boss ES Switcher Users Group on FB…
It’s amazing stuff !!

You should know if they are midi capable; it is in the manual.

I think what you are or will be looking for is a midi capable switcher and a midi controller. The two are usually not in one package/unit.

The midi switcher can be controlled by the midi controller to switch out pedals as needed. Switchers are usually limited to the number of loops it has for each pedal/unit.

Your midi controller can also control any pedals/units that are midi compatible with the correct interconnects (cabling).

I use Voodoo Lab stuff in my rack.

The Midi Mouse is simple/simpler.

Guys,

Thank you so much for helping me understand more about midi equipment. I think it is all over the top for my basic needs.

But I now know what to look for if I buy something just to get more out of the iridium.

Thank you,

G

Ok my new board is set up, at least in it first format.

I think I have enough pedals to do a bit of tap dancing and meet my needs.

Thus I am more focused now on just controlling my Strymon Iridium. So I am looking at the Disaster Area Range I am homing in on the small 2 button model with the screen. It looks fine but unusually there are no deep dive tutorials on line. Does anyone have any detailed guidance for me.

The iridium has 300 preset memories to basically eq the pedal and save the settings. I will only want a dozen or so ‘favourites saved.

I will typically set up a few sets like.

Marshall Clean / Cruch
Marshall Clean / OD
Marshall Crunch / OD

So that is essentially 6 settings.

I would repeat this for the Fender and Vox Models in the Iridium pedal.

All help greatly appreciated.

I really do not want a big midi. I only play with friends. No audience.
