JVM or Jubilee…

Would I be disappointed if I sold my JVM205h and bought a Jubilee 2555x? I like the jvm but the versatility is wasted on me. I only use two modes on the amp and something a little more simplistic seems tempting.

Have you ever played a Jubilee 2525x?

If not I suggest you do before making the switch, it’s a completely different animal. I mean it has its own thing going on, slightly darker and not quite as cutting than most Marshall amps imo.

I have not played one. I don’t even know where I could play one. But I already have a dsl head and it sounds pretty similar to the jvm in my opinion, so something a little different wouldn’t be terrible.

The thing that seems trip up a lot of the Jubilee’s detractors is the shared gain control between the rhythm and lead modes. If you hope to have a crystalline clean and a searing lead tone at the press of a footswitch, then the Jubilee will disappoint you.

The players that love the Jubilee usually find a good compromise between the two channels. Personally, I like the input gain dimed, and I deal with having a bit of crunch on the rhythm mode.

And, yeah, the Jubilee is a bit darker than other Marshalls. But that amp has tons of guts. If you like a big punchy low end, you’ll like the Jubilee.

+1 big time and I could not have said it any better at all .Plus this amp loves humbucker loaded guitars !

Agree with all the above. If you want a different flavor it would depend which modes you use on JVM. As mentioned Jubilee shares a gain control (of all things) with the clean channel. I kinda consider it a split channel rather than true 2 channel.
But if all you need is cleanish and killer saturation, it works great!! You really should try one...

If you’re moving from the jvm to a Jubilee then I say yes.I love mine it is its own unique tone.More Bass and a very active eq.I used to switch between clean&lead and that works
If the input gain is set at say 5 in my book that would be a classic rock type gain AC/DC tone then the clean was pretty clean.I now set it up as a single channel amp on the lead channel only for two reasons.One I found I like the way the amp responds with the input gain on 8.Two so I can crank the output master volume to 8 or higher and use the lead channel volume as the master volume as it really shines imo in this scenario.I just roll off the guitar volume to clean up and it’s clean enough for me.I do like to run a Strat on the clean channel with a good overdrive for the srv/Pink Floyd tones.Here’s a video that touches some of the tones you can get.Good luck and happy hunting!

Can't speak how the new ones are but my 89 jubilee goes from clean to fucking mean by just using the volume control on my guitar ( at least live ) How clean does it need to be? The jubilee has one of my favorite marshall tones next to the almighty super lead.

That’s one of the reasons I prefer single channel amps.

If Jubilee is heavily gained rolling back volume is not enough. Thus the use of clean channel.

I can get all the tones I want using the amps master volume, preamp volume, and the guitar volumes.

I was describing how I use an amp like that to get my cleans.

Unfortunately I don’t have unlimited space, but I could purchase the Jube for the same amount I could sell the jvm for so I wouldn’t be out any money.

I say just do it and judge for yourself. Tone and amps/gear are so subjective that IMHO other peoples opinions really don't matter in the end.

Ah - I get it!

That's the way I used to do things (I used a 2203 for 23 years...) In the end, I got fed up with all the compromises, and bought a JVM. I wouldn't go back.....but I still have the 2203 and sometimes think it would be interesting to do a gig with it again for old time's sake.
