I know I like vanilla, and I like banana splits, and I've had chocolate, strawberry, and raspberry before. But I haven't had ice cream in about 15 or 16 & 1/2 years - it's always just been popsicles. But not ice cream. Is it still good, or is it like a foamy liquid plastic GMO concoction now?

I haven't had any in about 8 years but I live near a native casino and they used to have the best ice cream ever.

They offered vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, or mixed berry.

They had a hopper that they would load the fresh berries in and the ice cream would flow through and mix perfectly with the fresh berries.

I wish they still had it. I could make my own but I'd need to get an immersion blender and some good quality ice cream.

That's probably why I haven't had it in 10 years. Had a stroke early in 2012. Gotta limit everything actually. Chances are pretty high that it happens again for most, but I've been ok. "prayer hands" & "crossed fingers".

Have you ever considered making your own ice cream? It's really pretty easy to do. All the different family get-togethers that we have and have had over the years, the home made ice cream has been a long running favorite of everyone's, running on for decades (or possibly even longer) at this point.

This way, you can control what goes into it and everything, you need not worry about GMO stuff or anything like that, so long as you don't put that stuff in there in the first place. Plus, it's really better than most everything I've had that can be bought, including Schwan's, and that's a pretty tall order since I might consider Schwan's at the top of the heap.

I've had it before, my wife made it. I remember it being good, but it was very creamy - lighter than real store boughten ice cream.

I would imagine with a little experimentation, one could probably fine tune the recipe to yield the preferred consistency, or creaminess, if you will.

Loved Little House, btw - one of my all time favorites. Good wholesome stories and it always made me yearn to live in much simpler times. Some things were certainly more difficult back then, but the quality of life always seemed like it was much better to me.

Except for mean ol' Nellie Olsen. I hated that bitch.

I saw you posted youre retired now , congrats! I hope it wasnt a forced retirement or for health reasons. Any way, stay away from the ice cream in retirement.

Oh, on another note, I read your story about your stroke somewhere online and thought it was informative, you should post that story here as a PSA for all us old fukkers. Glad you got through that ordeal more or less unscathed!

My nemesis! Blue Bell and Braum's vanilla which is just a smidge better. One of my jam buddies lives in Broken Arrow OK - the site of a Blue Bell plant which just happens to have a Braum's ice cream store right in front. Always made me laugh.

During my two rounds in February of the 'rona - PSA they gave me steroids which kept me up for four days straight so of course I quit taking them which led to thoroughly wonderful round #2 in which I stayed up for days and took all of the !*&!!%*!!! steroids - I went through about 2 gallons in three weeks. With peanut butter and Hershey's chocolate goodness.
