I own DSL20 and 40cr. Should I sell the 20 for an Orange Tiny Terror? ($400)

Not all Orange amps sound the same. I guarantee my AD30 sounds nothing like that Tiny Terror.

Good point. A Marshall Origin wouldn't tell me anything about a Marshall DSL. Just going on what I can find close to me. I demo'd an OR15, and a Micro Dark. Then Youtube'd comparisons between those and the TT. Bout the best I can do short of playing a TT for myself.

Don't assume that the Tiny Terror is representative of Orange amps. Just because you didn't like the TT doesn't mean you wouldn't love something else.
Yup that's true , haven't tried any of the others

Tiny Terror and AD30 are EL84 power section. They saturate and distort faster at the expense of some headroom.

Rockers are EL34. These sound bigger because the tubes are bigger and put out more power, greater headroom, greater fidelity.

The Micros are interesting beasts - they have solid state power sections that don't particularly sound like EL84 nor El34 brethren, but this does lend a unique clarity and headroom impressive for a 20w platform. I think they work better as a small amp solution for these reasons. They just need a bright cap, imho

Ha, yeah I'm down with all of that. Good perspective. Here's another question for you @Mystic38 since it looks like you have some Orange stuff.

The TT combo I was looking at is $275. I also just found a PPC112 for $200. I could get a Micro head used for cheap to go with that. So for around $275 - $325 in either event, does one or the other seem like a better set up to you?

While the MT is a nice little amp, the tiny terror has overall a far better tone imo .. power tube saturation is part of its schtick (just like the AD30 and original Rocker 30).. so at the same price equivalency the TT is the better deal.. and a classic

Great context! I ordered a TT combo from Guitar Center for $350 and it will be here Friday. Stoked to finally have one!

Go even smaller.

The point of having a small amplifier is to make it easier to get around, no?

The Micro Terror is 1/4th the cost of the Tiny Terror and 99% of the tone. It's seriously impressive hybrid tube pre/solid state power that has the goods.

I modded a Micro Dark recently with a .0022 or 2200pf Sozo bright cap as it had NONE on the board or gain pot and this opens up so much more tonal versatility. Also a Mullard 12AX7 softens some of the spiky tone, warms it up noticeably.

Still well under the 200 mark and you've got extra cash left for an Orange PC112.
I'm coming back to this thread months later to let you know @GlideOn that you were 100% right here! But I had to go through 2 amps to figure it out for myself, ha.

The back story if you don't want to read the whole thread was I wanted a combo amp to also serve as a 2nd cabinet for my DSL40. So first I tried the Tiny Terror combo. Got it for $350. Almost from the jump I just didn't bond with it. As a 2nd cabinet for the Marshall DSL40 it sounded amazing. G12h30 Anniversary speaker. But the jack was underneath and pretty cumbersome to switch back and forth. As an amp on its own, it sounded pretty good when cranked up but that's not always super practical for me.

Returned it to Guitar Center and got a Rocker 15 combo used for $450. Great deal so I wanted to love it. Especially with attenuation options down to 0.5 watt. But the 10 inch speaker was a deal breaker for me. Amp tones were decent (I imagine even better through a 12 inch speaker), and I loved how small and light it was... But using it as an extra cabinet for the DSL40 added almost nothing.

Returned that, and found a guy on Marketplace selling a Micro Dark for $100 (!!!). He also even upgraded the tube to a long plate Sylvania. I didn't want to go down the rabbit hole on tubes, so I don't know how it compares to the stock JJ, but I know it sounds amazing. So gonna leave it there. For a while I was just playing the Micro Terror into the DSL40 (V Type), then I happened to see this guy selling an Avatar 1x12 with blue tolex for $125. Another incredible deal. It has an old UK V30 and sounds awesome. I might drop my Creamback H75 in there to experiment, but I'm pretty happy as is.

As a cabinet it's not very heavy either. And obviously the MT is very light. The mini head and separate cabinet is a cool form factor and easier to transport than the DSL40.

The ooooonly thing I might still keep an eye out for down the road is an Orange PPC 1x12. The Avatar is unique and pretty cool looking, but I still got that Orange tolex bug :)
