Hi guys,

So im not new to playing guitar or amps or anything but i've always had an amp with reverb onboard and then just used a few pedals in the front end, so i've never really used an FX-Loop in any amp...

I am going to be getting the SV20 soon and im going to be putting a TC Hall of Fame reverb pedal in the loop - all good... And this will just sit on top of the amp...

However i will also be getting a MXR Delay pedal and im wondering if its worth also putting that in the loop or just leave it last in the chain on the front end...?

So yeah how many of you guys use the FX Loops and what do you normally use it for...? Or do you just go old school and have everything in the front end...?

Thanks for your time and info...

I do. Usually time based effects and eq
Same.
Modulation in the loop puts it after the coloration of the preamp and tone stack.
EQ, Chorus, reverb, and delay are typical pedals for the loop.
No rules, try both out front and in the loop, and see what you like better.

Loops are a very important feature for me. I use time based/modulations in the loop. Right now that's flanger, chorus, delay and reverb. Delay and reverb usually go last in the chain. Most people like the delay before the reverb. So for what you plan on having, the order I'd run it is, Loop send > Delay > Reverb > Loop return.

The delay you want in front is an echoplex EP-3 pedal because it has a boost that colors the Plexi tone well.

All other time based fx through the loop and the EQ pedal if you got it.

Roaring Plexi 70s hard rock fun.

Again - Cheers guys for the replies...

Yeah ok so both delay/reverb in the loop is the way to go - cool...

Also, yeah I have the Echoplex preamp pedal which i use in the front as an always on boost - and yeah it sweetens up the tone very nicely...

@Maxbrothman Would the Echoplex EP-103 or EP-101 work as well as the Echoplex EP-3 for boost? Or do you need both, one for boost and one for delay?

So i should prob tell you guys what my entire fx setup will be...

TC Tuner - Echoplex Preamp - Dunlop Wah - Duke of Tone overdrive - Proctavia (octave/fuzz) = all going in the front end...

Microvibe (uni-vibe) - MXR Delay - TC Reverb = Running through the FX-Loop...

How does that sound/look to you guys...?

The EP101 is the pre-amp/boost that colors the tone, and the echoplex is the delay. It is a great way to segregate the two which are together in the original echoplex units.

I have a Belle Epoch Deluxe with both pedals in one and more functions from the original echoplex. That whole lot goes in front. I bet with your combination you have the option to put the delay in the loop.

Loads of Mojo.

BTW, a TC PolyTune clip tuner works just as well as a TC tuner pedal. I have both and they measure exactly the same. It frees up pedalboard real estate and is one less pedal to power and worry about.

Although I’ve tried using the FX loop in all of my Marshalls (Origin 20C, DSL40CR, and SV20C), it’s just too complicated to set up for gigs, along with my front pedal board. Neither my band mates nor I could hear a difference between that set up and running them all up front, so I keep it simple. That said, I use the delay and chorus quite sparingly on a few songs only. It’s possible you might hear a difference at quieter levels at home or when recording, Conventional wisdom, however, advises keeping things like delay and reverb in the FX loop, because the signal is more pure.

My SV20H has a volume box in the loop to attenuate volume at home and an EQ pedal set for lead volume boost when needed.
