I was reading on the Marshall website about the JCM 2000 DSL 401 combo amp The website says "The DSL401 also featured a power switch to drop the amp’s output by half".

I've looked at the user manual and photos of the 401 but I do not see where the 1/2 power switch is located. Where is it?

Thanks!

Thanks! That explains it!

i wonder why they have it on their website?
because it came on later models...

JCM2000 DSL series have been discontinued probably over a decade ago. They've moved on to re-issues, which straightened out problems the JCM2K ones had & added new features, like the low power switch, etc.

JCM2000 DSL401C came out over 20 years ago. A lot has happened since then.

Thanks. Where is the switch?

EDIT: I figured it out. The DSL 40C of 2012 has the 1/2 power switch (on the back). The Manual says:

"2. PENTODE/TRIODE SWITCH
When Pentode (full power) is selected the amp’s
output capability is the full 40-Watts. When Triode
mode (half power) is selected, the amp’s output is
halved to 20-Watts. Triode mode also produces a
smoother, less aggressive sound."

Yup, and newest R versions (released in 2017?) have the power scaling on the standby switch. This method, as I'm told, doesn't affect the tone as much because it uses the entire tube but just reduces power to achieve lower wattage. I don't have experience with these though so take my statement with a grain of salt.
