Read the spiel and then look at the JMP50 OT (for EL34s) yet KT66s, hole for original RS OT with some guff about hole cut for new OT and rewound PT. The board has no orignal resistors and all electrolytics replaced
IMO you would be better off with an RI than this concoction.

Who are ATB guitars? Anyone had good dealings with them (in case I am being unfair)?

I’ve had good dealings with them on guitars but equally seen every now and then some things that didn’t make sense, especially when out of the usual Gibson / Fender vintage guitars. I am guessing (hoping) that it’s lack of knowledge than anything else but that shouldn’t be an excuse

We've discussed this one before when it was just listed on their website.

I agree, it's abominable. I actually PMed them on Reverb a couple of days ago re PT, and they simply didn't respond.

My best-case excuse for them was going to be "well, they probably mainly deal in really expensive guitars, so amps are an afterthought", but @ljs's comment suggests that doesn't apply either.

Interesting that they use the same tactic as Emerald City Guitars: blame the purported specs/condition on the tech.

It looks as though they may have read your post Neil And edited the listing to reflect the changes. I did not read the original description of the amp previously to seeing this post.

From the Reverb listing:
Internally there have been some changes, nothing you wouldn't expect. The output transformer has been changed for a late example. This has meant that a larger hole had to be cut in the chassis to accommodate it. Resistors and some smaller value capacitors have been changed as have all the potentiometers. The Drake mains transformers look to be correct and in good condition. The larger capacitors and valves have been changed.

I agree with you. There have been many changes and too few original parts to justify such a high price in my mind.

Perhaps they took it in trade , did not “look under the bonnet” and were snookered.

Still looks like the same listing to me:

The key part is "The Drake mains transformers [sic] look to be correct" - look at that paper!

As stated I did not see the original listing. i thought perhaps they had seen discussion on forums such as this one and changed the description.

I stand corrected.

ATB are quite well known, or maybe I spend too much time on social media. They used to sell on Ebay as 'atoyboy'. They sold a burst to Bonamassa recently, which seems to have started the ball rolling for them dealing in more bursts.

(part 1)

(part 2)

(part 3)

Haven't seen them list much in the way of amps and Marshall gear, so their knowledge is probably not that great.

I put a post up really recently about an old JTM45 that I was interested in purchasing from them and after posting on here it turns out there were lots of changed parts including transformers which they claim to be original. Ok for guitars but amps not so much I guess

That’s my view indeed
And for guitars, let’s be candid - caveat emptor. Issues are sometimes barely mentioned. Having said that, I would do business with them again (but not for amps…)

I fail to see how/why the OT hole (other than bolt holes) needed modification to accommodate the current OT? My guess is that this amp has seen a long, hard life on multiple work benches! +$12K? I don't think so!

ATB has quite a poor reputation among UK high end dealers. The general view is that Mike is "honest", but that view appears to be rapidly diminishing. He's sold clearly refinished guitars as original, particularly Strats. His descriptions on these amps are laughable. I know that facts have been pointed out many times, and yet the crap continues.

Just another dealer to avoid.

I looked a buying a strat locally from a guy which on inspection was a shockingly bad refin which was done on a jap body with a vintage fender neck. I saw it a few weeks later on said dealers site for £10k as all original less a white refin.............Stevie Wonder could see what was going on!!

Well I’ve considered buying a couple of very expensive things from ATB which turned out to very different from the description so I think I will avoid this dealer going forward.
