Decided this is going to be my next DIY project. The nice thing of course is that the front plate is a perfect match for the 2204, and the chassis seems strong enough to receive a set of transformers. Will post here pictures later tonight. Will use a JBL D120F speaker and the transformers of a dismantled Carlsbro TR60 combo

Check out Neil's build thread. His turned out pretty awesome.

I have a 5010 that I'm waiting on to crap out, then I'll probably do the same thing.

I have some interesting ideas, since the PT winding doesn't have a dedicated bias winding. Stay tuned

50 watters don’t tend to; provided you avoid the JMP ‘bias supply deenergised in standby’ klodge, what’s up with the standard 1987 / 2204 etc arrangement?

My idea was to use the original 5010 PT and use that for the negative bias supply, and at the same time use it to tap a positive reference voltage for the heaters

But the Carlbro mains transformer could supply both of those circuits no bother, just a few mA of HT current more load on it.
Whereas a second mains transformer will add at least 1kg maybe 2kg weight to the chassis, and another strong magnetic field to deal with.

Metal work is hopefully completed now, the mock up didn't reveil any big issues. Looking forward to start wiring this amp. Not sure yet what it will finally become. I've foreseen an extra ecc83 just in case

PT primary is wired.

Next step: decide on how to implement the stand-by switch. Where to put the rectifier, and where to foreseen the main ground point for the center tap of the secondary and the reservoir cap
