Hey there MFers!
Just came into owning a pretty rad and red 2204 clone from a local builder. This thing ALMOST absolutely kills!!! The only problem is it’s lacking some of the bass that I need from an amp. I’m not the hugest fan of using pedals to shape tones like that and feel it sounds much more organic from the amp than it does from an eq pedal I read that changing the bass cap in the tone stack from .022 to .22 like splawn does would do the trick, I had a quickrod and loved the low end from it so I’d like to take that rout. Anyone have a suggestion as to which .22 cap to get, or does it even matter? Also how easy is it to locate that cap? And before we start, yes I know how to discharge the caps, and have the tools and skill for a simple cap swap

Open up the amp and show a few gut shots. Locating the 22nF will not be difficult once you have the schematic at hand. Cheers

I recently changed v1 to Mullard ecc83 and that introduced a ton of bass. I suggest experiment with v1 before you start “modding “.

Hsve a play with http://www.guitarscience.net/tsc/ma...3=22n&RB_pot=LogB&RM_pot=Linear&RT_pot=Linear
Changing the bass cap C2 to 220nF only adds a few dB to sub bass, below say 70Hz, which may not have much tonal effect.
Tinkering with the value of the 1nF bright cap on the gain control (assuming your amp is a 2204 clone, rather than ‘based on’), / adding a resonance boost circuit, may be more effective ways of achieving your goal.

Awesome I’m gonna play with that plotter all the time now! If I do make any of the mods, IF I do change that cap in the tone stack what cap would I buy? 22uf 100v, or at 200v, or 50v etc… doing the mechanical work is easy knowing I’m just unsure which rating cap to get
