Anyone knowing what are those choke models and what are their differences ?

Ok, I understand about tolerances but is there a "standard frequency" at which these are measured when being described? 1kHz? 800Hz? 50Hz might make sense but it doesn't work.

Anyone knowing what are those choke models and what are their differences ?

If you were replying to me (maybe not?), I have Hammond, Heyboer, etc. “replicas” but I’m interested in a clean original for both study and vintage amp restoration.

Anyone knowing what are those choke models and what are their differences ?

btw - if someone has an original example of the previous non-bell Dagnall C1999 type, I'd be interested in purchasing it for a restoration. It's more appropriate than the others I have.

Anyone knowing what are those choke models and what are their differences ?

Looking back, I found one that's the later type (this was noted to have come from a 1968 Super Lead, but perhaps it's later, 1969?) that does read fairly close to 4H at 1kHz. You can ignore the OT / PT info at the bottom and the part number. The measurements at the top under "C1999 choke" are...

Anyone knowing what are those choke models and what are their differences ?

How are these chokes rated for their inductance, as they are commonly referred to in conversations? I have several inductance and LCR meters but when I measure a vintage or modern "5H" or "3H" choke uninstalled at common frequencies, I don't get those ratings. Is there a standard of measuring...

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

Have fun, here. I can appreciate some fun speculation and experimentation but when you try to spin it as fact and spread more misinformation around as such, I can't have a serious conversation about it.

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

Dude, you are nuts. You're saying that there were two visible knobs, from both the front and back, that would show the amp was modded. ...but, for some reason, there was an absurd amount of effort that went into hiding the additional 12AX7 tube, which would make it hard to service, increase...

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

I agree. There is an issue. You've misquoted Charles Gelber in your article. Your quote - "from 58 to 61 the es-335 got Alnico 2 (or 4) magnets that measured roughly 2.5″. Between 61 to 64 the es-335 got Alnico 5 magnets and those measure 2.25″ What is actually written on his website...

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

what???!!? You’re saying that, somewhere inside that amp chassis, there’s a tube socket mounted with an additional 12AX7, which is somehow reversed and upside down (I guess I don’t understand), and it’s done so without drilling holes? So, just glued in or something?

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

Yep. Marshall, Fender, Gibson - they all say the same thing. Nothing has changed. Current pickups are all the same. Current products are even better than originals, according to them. I don't care what a phone call to DiMarzio says compared to a parts bin full of originals I have in front of...

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

btw - the DiMarzio plastic bobbins of the early aftermarket days can shrink even from being left in the hot trunk of a car or a cargo container left on the tarmac on a hot summer day. Just because they are wrapped and/or shrunk does not necessarily indicate they were potted. I have an original...

Dave Friedman's 68 super bass : The secret Van Halen specs ?

From that article - "from 58 to 61 the es-335 got Alnico 2 (or 4) magnets that measured roughly 2.5″. Between 61 to 64 the es-335 got Alnico 5 magnets and those measure 2.25″." This is incorrect. Factually, demonstrably, absolutely incorrect. Anyone who's done a respectable amount of sincere...

You're looking at what's probably a Draloric resistors which can have a temperature coefficient band inside the tolerance band. The red indicates TC. It's a 100k resistor. The values you are suggesting would not work properly. I have some, but these are not rated for TC. I've used those...

    Reforming bad paper capacitors

Just curious - why do you expect a risk of electrocution from using a Jupiter capacitor in a non-passive circuit? They have voltage and temperature ratings and are made in the US. Do you think the ratings are false or they are for some reason less reliable than other options? I have no...

FS: 4 Made in UK Celestion Greenbacks G12M 75Hz T1221

The ones in the photos above did sell but I have another 1960BX cab on order, which I also plan to pull the speakers from (same speakers). So, once that new cab gets here (backordered), I can sell the other four speakers from that one. I’ll update the thread when they are available.

    Single coil to humbucker

If you route a neck single for a humbucker, consider extending the route towards the neck. For some reason, it’s more common to extend the route towards the bridge. Then, you get a neck pickup that’s kinda like a middle pickup - similar to a SG or 24 feet guitar. If you extend it towards the...

I'm pretty sure this puts to rest who the G.O.A.T is...

I wasn't there, but from accounts of parents and friends and industry colleagues who were, I get the impression that what Hendrix did to change guitar playing was far more significant than what Edward did. I don't mean that he was a better player, at all. I'm just talking about how much "playing...

    WTB - Scott knobs

Thank you, kindly @neikeel ! I often search eBay UK for Marshall stuff but sometimes listings don't show up unless I log out of my US account, even with the .co.uk web address. I was able to buy a set. Just what I needed!
