Thanks =)
Does anyone know if I want to use the EL34s or 6CA7s is the only difference that I'd use a 220k - or do I need to do other alterations (e.g. change the bias range to 56k)? Anything else?
Thanks - I really appreciate all of you helping and sharing knowledge!
I just ordered some 1w metal film resistors - I assume those will suffice?
Just to clarify, for the 6550s the recommendation is to try 150k?
And if I want to use the EL34s or 6CA7s is the only difference that I'd use a...
Right. I actually just measured the resistor to be sure and it is indeed 120k. The board actually says 220k under the resistor - see pic.
Should I swap in a 220k or 150k (the bias trim is maxed right now)? I actually only have 1/4 watt resistors at home, would that suffice? I could do a 100k...
I just tried 2 different sets of EL34s in it, they would only go up to 3mv of current with voltage at 395, they get a gated velcro fuzz effect when I play softly - starved...
Then I tried some Electro Harmonix 6CA7EH, and they sound amazing actually - better for me than the 6550s - bass is...
alright - I'm able to get it to 383 and 38 - pretty good I guess
If I want to get higher should I swap a resistor, or just try another set of tubes?
Does anyone know if I need to stay with 6550s?
The amp is sounding great as is, so I'm happy to stay as is, but I'm also a tinkerer at heart
So I wanted to bias my newly acquired 2104 and was checking for bias on 6550A and the recommendation for 388 plate voltage is like 76-87ma, but my amp is currently at 35ma - that seems like a big difference. I'm using these sites:

Now I am feeling lucky! Thank you all for the eyes on!
I've gotta say, this is probably the nicest and most welcoming forum experience I've encountered🙏
I just got a JMP 2104 (2204 combo). I had to swap out the preamp tubes because it was doing some weird stuff when I played up high, almost like the tone would roll off - but with the new tubes, it sounds great now.
I opened it up and took some pictures. I was wondering if anyone here who knows...
Right - the comparison was to get the amps to their sweet spots and compare at the same listening volume.
I've also played them both with band, but it's impossible to compare in this setting since the 2555x is louder and has to reach higher dbs to get power amp saturation I'd say the 2525h is...
I currently have a 2525h and a 2555x and am comparing them.
I have them both running through an amp switcher into a Suhr reactive load so that I can really just hear the differences between the amps.
They both have the Jubilee sound but they are a bit different. I will do my best to...
