I have an Atom in bound and as I was looking for a backup quad I noticed the JJ EL844 was listed as a lower power EL84.
Any experiences good or bad?

My dear friend and fellow Marshall freak and I have been trading gear back and forth for years. Five years ago I ended up with one of his JMP2203s that had a Partridge OT and EL34's. Me being me [the AntiTolex] I built a head shell for it -
Sounds great but I'm slowly drifting to the...
When my dad was in town, we built him a pistol box to store 8 of them.
He was lusting after my speaker cabs - guess where I got the wood whore jones from - and asked if this would make a good sub -
I explained it was a combo cab that had an open back and not enough depth to work well...
I'm like the Metalica song 'Bad Seed' AKA 'Me again. Me!' I just won't go away.
After picking up a load of wood yesterday I'm contemplating what I should be doing with all of the woody treasure I have in the shop. New head shell came to mind then all of the iterations I've done over the...
I'm in lust mode. I have a Satellite Barracuda [now called a 'Cuda due to copyright I believe] which is a loose take on a JTM45 / KT 66 - with more headroom. When I tried it at the one and only Dallas Amp Show in 2015 [I think] it was between the Barracuda and the Atom which is Satellite's...
So, I get up on this fine Sunday morning to see Jif [smuckers] has announced a recall on their crunchy and creamy peanut butter. No, I don't want to hear how your all-natural organic toad feces masquerading as peanut butter is better. I'm a product of the 'We put high fructose corn syrup in...
Time to cut!
If you've seen the previous threads, I have a quad of 8" Celestion speakers with a freq response similar to an EVM12L. I'm building an adaptive cab so that the depth can be adjusted to tune the cab to a sweet spot measured by the mark one earball. Help me by picking your favorite...
The original design intent was to build a matching size cab to an existing 1960A - 20.25x20.25x12 in cherry. Now I'm not getting the same woody I had last week. BTW this is only an excuse to build another speaker cab for my personal amusement and hopefully positive knowledge.
I've researched...
So I have the itch, craving, jones [it's a disease] after building a headboard that took a lot longer than I thought and am burned out on, to build something foolish like a 4x8 scaled 1960.
This cab started life in that configuration then morphed into a 2x8 + 1x10 and now it's happily stuffed...
/Rant on/
The trigger for this is looking over my new lease. The complex was sold last year and I expected an increase and it came - 10% on apartment and 25% on garage. The thing that frosts my hairy butt is they are charging a $12 per month for a 'building fee;, $25 per month 'utility' fee...
Stewmac [rotten bastards!!!] hit me with a 30% off Mighty Mite Tele necks offer. For $94 + shipping and taxes I couldn't pass it up. They had 15% off most of the hardware as I only have the curly maple topped body. Brad Paisley pickups from CME and some RF carbon paint and the bits will be...
I've been thinking - a very dangerous past time for me - about a Marshall Forum Amp Meet. A chance for us to get together in person and bash on gear, tell lies and generally be sociable. Figure arrival on a Friday night, amp meet Saturday and crawl home on Sunday.
I live in a small town and...
A year ago my younger brother died from type 2 diabetes. He and I would jam a bit on the rare occasions I saw him and there were guitars available. My parents brought the guitar when they visited in September and I thought giving it a good cleaning, strings and setup would be a way of honoring...
Yep, I'm back with another edition of 'This dude has done lost his mind...'
I ordered in a 1/4" bandsaw blade which came in last night - a size I've never used before - went to adjust the blade guide bearings and the bottom three were frozen. Of course like most mission critical...
Yes, it is I, the warped and demented defiler of all things wood - pretty wood that is - with another wackadoodle cab build. With sapele and curly maple I will create from thin air, no sorry, lots of sawdust and scrap bits on the way to an OS 1x12 the same size as the walnut and padauk cab I...
I have an Empress Heavy -
and it's my go to low volume pedal for almost anything. My only complaint is both sides have a ton of drive [DUH! It's called the Heavy!]. The functionally of the EQ to add low end and the Weight knob give me the roaring plexi balls and saturation at low volume...
I'm a 99% at home low volume slouch guitar fool. I have determined through lots and lots [and lots] of experimentation that I prefer 50 & 100 watt 1987/1959 amps as they sound better to me than low watt tube amps at any volume.
My current secret weapon is an Empress Heavy distortion pedal...
I've had this Fender Tele body I drop topped a few years ago -
I love the idea of Tele's [I've had five] but the reality always falls short. Don't like the neck and I try to make them sound like HB's. Oh and I hate the hum.
So I've been shopping around -
Warmoth neck with Jackson style...
My long time buddy, Rik, amp crack dealing connoisseur of all things Marshall built me a 1987 with a PPIMV a few years ago. It sounded good but lost out in the realm of the mighty 100 watt [yes it's a compensation thing...] and sat in a corner gathering dust. I dusted it off a month or so ago...
